An ongoing collection of work from my travels across the United States.
Human's imposition on the natural world has always been something perceivable to the naked eye. The contemporary natural landscape is synonymous with nature as well as its man-made counterparts. My goal with this series is to contextualize these impositions through the use of materials that will draw the viewer's attention from what is expected. In a sense, I am subtly building up and recomposing the landscape in my own manner, actively drawing the viewer's eye from what is beyond these borders and boundaries that we create, much like what people do on a larger scale with the man-made landscape.
Life. Death. Happiness. Sorrow. We are all fueled by these happenings in our life. In this project I attempt to analyze my own life experiences that have brought me to this point in time. Though collectively this project contains the narrative of my own self exploration, on their own each image carries a story, remembered and forgotten, that shaped my own self realization. Each images is representative of points in my life and characterized by objects that correlate to the individuals and instances that have influenced me. By photographing each image in a vanitas style I hope to portray the people and events through objects that represent them, a portrait uninhabited. As well as the image itself, each piece will be paired with an item of significance, something tangible, to accentuate the certainty of times past. The process of this self observance forces me to confront my own journey from which has brought me to this stage of my life. Through this exploration I discovered that it is not only the significant events like life and death that have molded my reality, but the minor ones like temporary pain and joy that left lasting impressions on my self image.
